Hello ♪
We’ve had good weather lately, but no guests today, so let me tell you about Gato Island instead.
Because of last year’s earthquake, the popular cave has been off-limits, and that’s still the case now.
The issue is that they banned it, but never followed up with a proper survey — and since someone could be held responsible if anything happened, it’s stayed closed ever since.
It’s almost been a year now, and people dive normally near the cave entrance anyway. Everyone at the Malapascua diving association feels the same way: instead of banning it without reason, they wish the authorities would actually do a proper survey and then either keep it closed or, if it’s judged safe, reopen it — one or the other.
Just leaving it “still not allowed” without ever investigating really doesn’t sit right.
Either way, once we can confirm it’s safe to dive, I really want to get back into that cave soon ♪
